A dormant factory space nestled in the vibrant, multicultural community of Footscray was entrusted to us at Koble, into an exciting café – one that can go toe-to-toe with competitors in the crowded coffee scene of Melbourne.

The complete re-fit included conversion to an open floor plan alongside a spacious service area featuring a functional fireplace and enormous industrial fan. These works also included a kitchen that adheres to all commercial cooking regulations, making it as practical and spacious as it is beautiful.

We were also tasked with the addition of a second floor, housing an office to oversee business below.

With the re-fit, a sadly vacant factory evolved into a dual-purpose venue with life, vibrancy and character. The new site allows both a hospitality group to grow and provides a central meeting point of the people of the burgeoning inner west to enjoy.

“If ‘industrial cathedral’ was a design term, then Sam and Celeste Gant have nailed it. In a cavernous space originally built as a wool factory, and that once housed the Lonely Planet offices, [Gathered] channels all sorts of warehouse chic.”
